Brandon, FL—A popular Golden Corral buffet located at 815 Providence Road in Brandon was temporarily shut down following a state health inspection that uncovered multiple violations. This marks the second time in 2024 that the restaurant has faced a temporary closure due to health and safety concerns.

    What the Inspection Revealed

On September 24, 2024, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation conducted an inspection of the Brandon Golden Corral. The results were concerning, with inspectors identifying 12 violations, including several high-priority issues. Among the basic violations were a cutting board that was no longer cleanable, dead roaches, standing water on the floor, and a soiled wall.

More severe findings included a soiled can opener, a dishwashing machine that was not sanitizing properly, live flying insects, and live roaches within the restaurant. The presence of these high-priority violations prompted the immediate temporary closure of the establishment.

A follow-up inspection on the same day revealed that three violations remained. However, none of the remaining issues posed an immediate threat to public health, allowing the restaurant to meet inspection standards and reopen.

    A Pattern of Closures

This is not the first time the Brandon Golden Corral has been forced to close its doors. Earlier in July 2024, the restaurant experienced another temporary shutdown due to similar health violations. Although it has since reopened, repeated incidents have raised questions about the restaurant's ability to maintain consistent health and safety standards.

    The Broader Picture

Buffet-style restaurants, like Golden Corral, are beloved by many Floridians for their variety and affordability. However, cleanliness and food safety remain critical concerns for patrons, especially when incidents like these occur. Golden Corral's ability to rectify these issues and regain customer trust will be crucial as they navigate these challenges.

As the restaurant continues to operate, it remains to be seen whether additional measures will be taken to prevent future violations and closures.
