The estate of the late, great Daniel Johnston has announced a reissue of his landmark 1991 album Artistic Vice that includes a second disc of unreleased songs, outtakes, and rehearsals. It is out October 18th via Eternal Yip Eye Records / Thirty Tigers, and was produced by Johnston’s longtime friend, Kramer. As a preview, the new old song “All Good Children Got to Die” is streaming now.

Artistic Vice is considered Johnston’s first studio album but his twelfth record overall, preceded by nine iconic demos and two attempts at that studio debut, Continued Story and 1990 . This particular collector’s edition arrives to celebrate the inclusion of  Johnston’s songs in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux , proving that his music continues to resonate with the aging filmmakers trusted by studios to reach new generations.

“All Good Children Got to Die” could have slotted in nicely next to Artistic Vice track  “I Know Casper,” as the single artwork acknowledges with a picture of a certain friendly ghost. “Been getting fat on my humble pie,” Johnston sings, “Pretty soon I’ll up and die/ Don’t shed a tear now, don’t you cry/ All good children got to die.” This version is raw as a demo, and will charm fans of Johnston’s earlier work.
