According to ESPN’s Kevin Weekes, Igor Shesterkin has rejected an eight-year, $88 million contract from the New York Rangers.

This contract would have earned him $11 million per season, making him the highest paid goaltender in NHL history.

This comes days after Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman came out saying that the Rangers will pay Shesterkin as it’s only a matter of time.

“I believe it’s going to work out," Friedman said. "I think the Rangers have made the choice that they’re going to pay him and, to me, it just comes down to what the numbers going to be. Until I’m told otherwise, I expect them to work out. Work it out. I believe the Rangers have made their choice here.”

If Shesterkin wants more than $11 million, what exactly is he seeking?

Mollie Walker of The New York Post wrote this summer that Shesterkin’s camp is aiming for as high as $12 million a year and with this bombshell news from Weeks, this previous report seems to have some truth to it.

Despite a report stating the Rangers would stop negotiations until next summer if a deal is not reached by the start of the regular season, according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Rangers are not fazed by the reported regular season deadline to strike a deal with Shesterkin.

The Rangers reportedly made their move, so now all eyes are on Shesterkin.
