Tim Walz Tells Jimmy Kimmel He’s Going to Wake Up After Election Day ‘With Madam President’

Jimmy Kimmel caught Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) in a racy tangle of words on Monday after making a prediction about the upcoming presidential election.

During his guest segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live (at around the 3:45 mark), Walz told Kimmel about being an “eternal optimist,” applying that to his hopes that Americans were ready to “turn the page” on former President Donald Trump and vote for Vice President Kamala Harris , his running mate. But his wording nearly got him into trouble, something he admitted happened once in a while:

Kimmel: That seemed to be the biggest moment of the debate , when you talked to [Sen. JD Vance (R-OH)] and you asked him, “Do you believe Donald Trump won the election?” And he wouldn’t answer.

Walz: That should have been the lead, don’t you think? Like 85 minutes before.

Kimmel: Yeah, yeah, it’s crazy. Although you have to remember also, the last vice president who said he thought Trump lost the election wound up being chased out of the Capitol building. So, it is something that probably was in–

Walz: A self-preservation mode? It’s very surreal to sit there and listen to this. And this is kind of the situation we’re in. But I said that for me, being an eternal optimist, I always say that — I supervised the high school lunchroom. You’re an optimist or you’re your dead. And I loved it. But this idea that we get to turn the page on that, and I plan on waking up on November 6th with Madam President, and then I will be…

Kimmel: I just want to be… I want to be clear. You won’t be waking up together . Well, unless there’s, unless you guys have gotten closer than we thought.

Walz: [laughing] I have a problem about not being specific with my language, so, thank you for that.
