Liverpool ace's transfer branded 'ridiculous' as genius Arne Slot move could soon become clear

Italian attacker Federico Chiesa 's summer transfer has already been labeled "ridiculous" despite the forward making just one appearance for Liverpool in the Premier League this season.

An Italian news outlet publicized its opinion regarding the summer move , questioning his choice to leave Juventus after four seasons with the club. During that period, he won the Italian Cup twice, the Italian Super Cup, and Footballer of the Year in 2021.

Chiesa was deployed in several roles at Juve, from wing positions to supporting striker in a two-man front. He was sold for just 12 million euros, which the publication heavily criticized as too cheap for such a key piece of their success.

" Why sell him off for a price that seems ridiculous today? Why not give him a chance? Was all this done to relieve themselves of a 5 million euro salary," they asked.

The publication then discussed Kenan Yildiz, who Juve trusted to wear the number ten shirt. But in their opinion, he hasn't panned out yet to replace Chiesa with confidence after scoring two goals in nine starts this season and having no goals yet through six starts this year.

Chiesa signed a four-year contract with Liverpool that will run until June 30, 2028. Capology said the deal earned him a substantial weekly salary of $196,873.

The winger made his Premier League debut this season in a 3-0 win over Bournemouth, coming on for Darwin Nunez after the No. 9 scored the game-sealing goal in the first half. But his impact was limited, registering just 12 touches and one shot on target.

He completed 7 of 8 passes in the game but doesn't seem to be favored by Arne Slot. Chiesa did not appear in Liverpool's subsequent matches against Wolves or Crystal Palace, raising questions about his current role in the squad.

The Italian made a brief appearance in Liverpool's 3-1 Champions League victory over AC Milan, logging just one minute after subbing in for Mohamed Salah in extra time when the game was already decided. Slot noted that Chiesa dealt with an injury before kickoff that prevented him from training for the match.

Slot classified the injury as muscle-related, which aligns with past injuries. He's been listed as having muscular injuries 11 times in his career, dating back to 2018.

Chiesa has seen limited action despite flashes of brilliance due to a nagging injury history. Last year, he missed 11 games with knee and muscle problems that kept him sidelined for 45 days. His most significant recent contribution came during the third round of the Carabao Cup against West Ham, where he assisted Diogo Jota for the game's first goal in a dominant 5-1 win for the Reds.
