Our Cowboys 'Blow It Up' Theory? Jerry Finally Admits To Plan

FRISCO - I have been reporting it since February, having named the plan "Blow It Up/Remodel.'' It is controversial and misunderstood and not well-received ... and in many corners of the Dallas Cowboys world, not accepted as truth.
But it was true then, as evidenced by the actions of the team's front office. And it is especially true now that Jerry Jones hisownself has actually admitted it.
What is "Blow It Up/Remodel''? What did it mean? And how was it to manifest itself? In short, the Cowboys front office - reeling from a playoff loss to the Packers that knocked the entire organization on its heels - decided to be "all in'' for 2024 in terms of the chips that were on the table ... while also not borrowing any future chips for this year. It meant a mountain of one-year or final-year contracts, with an astounding 35 of the 53 players performing as "lame ducks.'' And it meant the same thing contractually for coach Mike McCarthy and staff.
"All in'' for 2024. "Many out'' for 2025 as the team intended on locking up foundational stars Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and (next year) Micah Parsons while "keeping our powder dry'' cap-wise for a talent injection next March.
That is, in short, how I laid it out. Not "tanking.'' Not a lack of "caring.'' Simply a business decision - and a difficult one, given the fact that the core of this roster has been to the playoffs for three straight seasons - that a "remodel'' is due.
And now Jerry Jones is conceding that I was and am correct.
Jones was recently asked on 105.3 The Fan is what Dallas is going through could be termed " a soft rebuild .''
"Yeah,'' Jones replied. "I think you've nailed it, you're right on it."
Bingo. There are still those who fail to understand, who simply aren't listening, or who oddly view this comment as a headline-grabbing media ploy. In fact, the statement has grabbed very few headlines because too few people understand what it all means. And it is the exact opposite of a "headline-grab'' ... because it is a concession - and Jones doesn't come by those easily.
The Joneses desperately want the 2024 Cowboys to win - but not desperately enough to forfeit future assets to get there. They want to sign Micah more than they want to acquire and pay the likes of, say, receiver Davante Adams, the sort of storyline being chased by those who don't understand "Blow It Up/Remodel.''
Hint: He has not. And why not? Hint: Because as wonderful as such a thing would be, the 2024 Cowboys aren't fully constructed for that. But "Blow It Up/Remodel''? Or a "soft rebuild,'' to borrow Jerry's paraphrase?
The idea - like it or not, listen or not - is that the 2025 Dallas Cowboys will be built for that.
