GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Real Rosewood Foundation is celebrating its Queen!

On Wednesday, October 23, the Real Rosewood Foundation is celebrating the 86th birthday of founder “Queen” Lizzie at Spurrier’s Gridiron Grille in Celebration Pointe.

“We’re honored to once again host Lizzie’s birthday party and support the Real Rosewood Foundation,” said Freddie Wehbe, Managing Partner of Spurrier’s Gridiron Grille. “Lizzie is an important part of our community and the work she has dedicated her life to is important, so we’re excited to host her for this wonderful celebration.”

The party is a community event and all are welcome to join the festivities. Each ticket is $50 and comes with one one-drink ticket and access to a delicious buffet of favorites from Spurrier’s Gridiron Grille. Tickets are limited and on sale now. Rosewood, Florida was a bustling town of African Americans, founded in 1845 in Levy County. A successful town based on turpentine and timber, it enjoyed a robust population until a racially motivated mob attacked on January 1, 1923. As the niece of Rosewood survivor Mahulda Gussie Brown Carrier, Lizzie Jenkins Robinson established the Real Rosewood Foundation organization to honor her aunt and preserve the legacy and history of the town.
