Jaguars rookie WR Brian Thomas Jr.'s big play in Week 5 caused a Colts defensive back to lose his job

The Jacksonville Jaguars picked up their first win of the year in Week 5 over their AFC South rivals, the Indianapolis Colts.

Their biggest play of the day, without a doubt, came when Trevor Lawrence connected with rookie Brian Thomas Jr. for an 85-yard touchdown.

And it looks like the Colts defender who allowed the touchdown had to pay the consequence.

The Colts announced on Monday that they had waived cornerback Dallis Flowers, the DB whose coverage lapse allowed Thomas Jr. to be wide open for his 85-yard touchdown. So, his last memory as a Colt will be watching Thomas Jr. blow by him, and it even created quite the photo to cement the moment.

Thomas ended the day with five receptions, 122 yards, and, of course, a touchdown. He led the Jaguars in receiving on the day and now has the most receiving yards on the team in 2024, with 397. He also leads all rookie WRs in receiving yards.

So it's safe to say the Jaguars are happy with the early return on investment they've received from their 2024 first-round pick. Him emerging so quickly has certainly softened the blow of losing star WR Calvin Ridley to the Tennessee Titans this offseason. And for what it's worth, Thomas Jr. has over 250 more yards and two more touchdowns than Ridely this season.
