Paul McCartney recently launched 2024 edition of his Got Back World Tour. The former Beatles star is three shows into the trek, having kicked things off on October 1 in Montevideo, Uruguay, then played an October 5-6 stand at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

So far, one of the highlights of the shows has been McCartney’s first-ever performances of the new Beatles tune, “Now and Then,” which was released in November 2023. Sir Paul has now posted a video clip on his social media pages capturing him playing part of the song at one of the Buenos Aires concerts.

The video shows McCartney singing “Now and Then,” and also cuts to several emotional fans watching in the audience. One fan is seen crying. During the performance, the “Now and Then” music video is shown on a giant screen behind the stage. The clip includes archival footage of The Beatles at various periods of the band’s career, and some scenes incorporate new footage of McCartney and Ringo Starr into the vintage scenes.

Fans React to McCartney’s “Now and Then” Performance

A variety of fans have shared their reactions to McCartney’s performance in the comments section of his Facebook page.

One fan wrote, “What a beautiful song, he brought the Beatles together back again for a moment.”

Another commented, “Wonderful interpretation, very moving for the fans in the audience and all of us who followed excerpts on social media. It brought us to tears, a beautiful gift!”

A third fan shared, “This gives me goosebumps and brings tears to my eyes.”

    More About McCartney’s Recent Concerts

McCartney has been playing more than 35 songs during his 2024 shows so far. His October 5 concert in Buenos Aires included a rendition of his 1972 Wings hit “Hi, Hi, Hi,” the first time he’d performed that tune live since 2019.

As with McCartney’s 2023 concerts, the new shows also have featured him doing a virtual duet with John Lennon on “I’ve Got a Feeling.” The performance utilizes footage from The Beatles historic January 1969 performance on the roof of Apple Corps’ headquarters in London.

    More About “Now and Then”

“Now and Then” was put together using a demo recorded by Lennon in the late 1970s, to which new vocals and instrumental parts were added by the band’s other members during the 1990s and 2020s. The track was released as a single in November 2023. It also was included on the expanded reissue of The Beatles 1967-1970 compilation (a.k.a. “The Blue Album”), which was released the same month.

About McCartney’s Upcoming 2024 Tour Plans

The next stop on McCartney’s 2024 Got Back Tour will be in Santiago, Chile, on Friday, October 11. Sir Paul will then play several more shows in South America, before visiting Costa Rica and Mexico. This portion of the trek runs through a November 17 concert in Mexico City.

McCartney will then head to Europe for a run of eight performances mapped out from a December 4-5 stand near Paris through a December 18-19 engagement in London.
