One person was taken to the hospital after an incident involving one of the Dallas Police Department's mounted patrol horses at the State Fair of Texas on Tuesday afternoon.

The Dallas Police Department said in a statement that a Dallas officer was riding a horse patrolling the State Fair. He was at the Big Tex Circle around 3 p.m. when his horse was startled. The officer attempted to regain control of the animal and a fair patron was injured in the process before the officer was bucked off the horse.

Dallas Fire Rescue transported the officer as well as the injured patron to the nearest hospital to treat their injuries. Dallas police say the patron was unconscious at first but it is still unclear how they were injured. The horse was returned to its mounted barn without further incident.

    No other injuries were reported.
