Denver Broncos sign former Saints wide receiver following surprising release

    By Travis Wakeman,

The Denver Broncos added a new wide receiver to their roster on Tuesday, signing A.T. Perry to the practice squad . Perry was a sixth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints last season and had been with them until just recently when he was surprisingly released.

The Saints took Perry out of Wake Forest in last year's draft and he played in 10 games as a rookie with three starts. He caught 12 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns. He made the roster again this year but the Saints did not get him involved on offense, choosing to release him last week . The Saints seemed more intent on getting undrafted rookie Mason Tipton more of a look.

It seemed like a sure thing that someone would jump on the 24-year-old Perry and the Broncos have done just that. He is an ideal fit for the Broncos, having the size Sean Payton likes (6-foot-5) to go along with blazing speed. He is going to start on the Broncos' practice squad, but look for him to be part of the active roster this season.

A.T. Perry gives Broncos another big-bodied wide receiver

The Broncos needed another option in the passing game, so this signing makes perfect sense.

Courtland Sutton and Josh Reynolds remain the top targets in the passing game for Bo Nix. Lil'Jordan Humphrey is the No. 3 option and both Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims Jr. have added very little to the passing attack.

It's still a growing offense, but Perry offers the Broncos another young option who has a chance to grow into an important role over time. This is a signing Broncos Country should be excited about.
