A couple of former Clemson – and local – standouts are reuniting together in Charlotte.

The Carolina Panthers announced Tuesday that they have promoted defensive end DeShawn Williams to the active roster from their practice squad, while the Panthers also signed outside linebacker Shaq Lawson to their practice squad.

Of course, the two former Tigers were teammates at nearby Daniel High School before playing together at Clemson in 2013 and 2014.

Williams played in two games for the Panthers earlier this season and also spent 2023 in Carolina after signing with the Panthers ahead of last season. He posted 33 total tackles, seven quarterback hits and a sack in 2023 while playing in 16 games with 10 starts.

Originally an undrafted free agent in 2015, Williams has spent time with the Bengals, Dolphins, Colts, Bills and Calgary Stampeders of the CFL, to go along with three stints with the Broncos and his time with the Panthers. The 31-year-old has tallied 150 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and nine sacks in his NFL career.

Lawson re-joined the Bills for the last two seasons after beginning his career with the team. In between his two stints in Buffalo, the 30-year old spent time with the Dolphins, Texans and Jets.

Last season, Lawson posted 13 tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and seven QB hits in 16 games (one start).

A 2016 first-round pick of the Bills, he has racked up 207 tackles, 42 tackles for loss and 26 sacks in his NFL career.
