The Suncoast Wind Ensemble is a group that leaves its audience humming familiar music as they leave the concert. The day after Hurricane Helene, the concert at Seaside Shores provided that opportunity.

Directed by Lynn Cleary, the Ensemble played music from “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” then performed “Big Band Bash” and a Frank Sinatra tribute. Each piece had the audience smiling and tapping its feet.

The concert brought more than 50 members of the Seaside Shores Community to its lovely theatre.

Bill Millner, a long time member of the group, introduced Lynn and the musicians to the audience. His family was on hand cheering for Bill and his role as the tuba player with the group.

Lahneen Glenn played some solo highlights as the new percussionist with the ensemble. Laheen took up the drums later in life and was trained by a drummer in the Marine Band.

The Suncoast Wind Ensemble is well known in the Venice area. Their music adds spirit to events like Memorial Day and Veterans Day at Venice’s Patriots Park. Several times a year, the group gives concerts at the MCC Suncoast Church on Venice Ave.

Mark your calendars. The next concert at the MCC Church is on Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. Admission is $10 payable at the door.

The Suncoast Wind Ensemble is made up of men and women who love music. In past lives, they were teachers, directors and even members of military bands. Many are veterans. They are invited to stand and be recognized after playing the Military Salute.

Thank you, Suncoast Wind Ensemble, for adding music to our hearts.

One Of Our BestThe special person of this week is Lynn Cleary, director of the Sun Coast Wind Ensemble. Lynn came to Florida from Michigan where she was a teacher, music director, administrator and even a superintendent of schools.

In Florida, Lynn is the director of several bands and ensembles, including the Lakewood Ranch Wind Ensemble, North Port Concert Band and others. Lynn not only directs but also entertains.

She feels the music and moves in rhythm with the musicians.

Before and after concerts, she enjoys chatting and is always friendly and fun. She makes coming to concerts not just a musical treat but an invitation for a musical gala.

She recognizes many regular fans and makes them feel welcome. Lynn is one of the musicians who makes Venice a great place to live.
