Northern Nevada Forecast: Cooler Temperatures and Gusty Winds Expected, But Dry Conditions Stay

Reno, NV — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has forecasted a gradual cooling trend for the region over the next several days, though temperatures will still remain above average for this time of year. While a couple of weak weather systems are expected to brush the area mid to late week, no significant precipitation is on the horizon.

Currently, temperatures across western Nevada and northeastern California valleys are around 10 degrees above seasonal averages, with highs in the mid-80s. The Sierra communities are experiencing slightly cooler temperatures, with highs in the mid to upper 70s. The NWS anticipates light afternoon and evening breezes, except in areas south of US-50, where gusty outflows from dry showers could occur due to weak instability.

By Wednesday, wind conditions are expected to pick up as the first of two weak systems flattens the ridge over the region, introducing more southwesterly flow. A stronger system will move in on Thursday and Friday, bringing a dry cold front to the area. This will enhance winds, particularly over mountain ridgelines, with gusts increasing by Thursday afternoon and continuing into Friday.

While there were initial hopes for some rain, the NWS has downgraded the chances of measurable precipitation, with only a 10-20% probability of rain along the Sierra crest and northeastern California on Saturday.
