The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) is making waves in the automotive industry with the creation of two fully functional electric vehicle concept cars—Aether and Tyr—designed and built entirely by students from the ground up. SCAD's award-winning industrial design program focused on engaging the next generation of drivers, developing the Aether, a sleek convertible sports car, and Tyr, a rugged off-road SUV.

SCAD President Paula Wallace praised the students’ innovative approach, noting their collaboration with professionals in fashion, luxury marketing, and cutting-edge technology to create vehicles that appeal to Gen Z, a demographic often uninterested in driving. "These new electric vehicle concepts answer an essential question for the automotive industry as more young people turn to rideshare and public transit," Wallace said.

Incorporating 3D printing and futuristic tech like AI companions and eye-tracking controls, these vehicles are designed to change perceptions about driving while showcasing SCAD's hands-on learning experience.
