    Mountain bike team competes at Fall River, Rhinelander

    The Hayward composite mountain bike team competed in two recent races in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Cycling League fall series.

    On Sunday Oct. 6, the riders were in Rhinelander for the Hodag Hustle. Three of the Hayward cyclists took first place in their age divisions. The results were:

    Sixth grade boys: Gus Berquist third, 27:01; li Yoder 28th, 33:01.

    Sixth grade girls: Alaina Patnode fifth, 30:02; Greta Jacobson 15th, 35:13.

    Seventh grade boys; Jackson Wolf eighth, 27:03; Montreal Ffairbanks 430th, 33:07; Duke Hoya 57th, 39:21.

    Seventh grade girls: Adriana Flintrop fifth, 30:41; Kajsa Nelson seventh 30:47; Fiona Weimer 18th, 33:05.

    Eighth grade boys: Luke Berens 21st, 28:23; Walter Berquist 44th, 30:40.

    Eighth grade girls: Brooklyn Place 13th, 33:01.

    Freshman girls: Marin Patnode sixth, 55:01; Norah Werner 30th, 1:19:34.

    JV II Division 1 boys: Sam Berquist first, 45:30; Samuel Roach 11th, 53:06; Ryan Nechuta 14th, 53:47.

    JV II girls: Elsa Maki first, 55:52; Evelyn Morse fifth, 1:23:56.

    MS2 boys: Eliah Flintrop first, 45:13.

    MS2 Girls: Madalynn Schwartz second, 53:49; Olivia Swift 10th, 58:27; Isabella Menk 14th, 59:15.

    Varsity boys: Neel Dums fifth, 1:29:01; Arlo Morse 23rd, 1:37:06; James Lawrence 34th, 1:40:54; Grady Weimer 54th 1:48:55.

    Varsity girls: Ella Gerber 14th, 1:53;56; Brooke Berens 22nd, 2:08:51.

    On Sunday Sept. 29, the Hayward mountain bike team riders were among 1,041 cyclists competing at the Englewood Epic Festival in Fall River, north of Madison.

    The Hayward finishers included three who took first place in their age groups: Sam Berquist, Elsa Maki and Eliah Flintrop.

    Sixth grade boys: Gus Berquist third, 21:43.

    Sixth grade girls: Alaina Patnode fifth, 22:11; Greta Jacobson 14th, 25:16.

    Seventh grade boys: Jackson Wolf seventh, 20:50; Montreal Fairbanks 67th, 25:42; Duke Hoyos 83rd, 29:36.

    Seventh grade girls: Adriana Flintrop sixth, 23:05; Kajsa Nelson 11th, 23:25; Fiona Weimer 19th, 24:52.

    Eighth grade boys: Walter Berquist 51st, 23:06.

    Eighth grade girls: Caroline Carlson seventh, 23:29; Lydia Nechuta 13th, 24:07.

    Freshman D1 boys: Justin Olney 12th, 41:24.

    Freshman girls: Marin Patnode second, 42:37; Coco Toshner 12th, 46:19; Norah Werner 16th, 46:46.

    JV II, Division 1 boys: Sam Berquist first, 37:30; Ryan Nechuta 24th, 43:47; Samuel Roach 59th, 49:35.

    JV II girls: Elsa Maki first, 43:58.

    JV III girls: Evelyn Morse sixth, 1:15:57.

    MS 2 boys: Eliah Flintrop first, 36:42.

    MS2 girls: Madalynn Schwarz third, 42:24; Isabella Menk 12th, 46:43; Olivia Swift 19th, 53:33.

    Varsity boys: Neel Dums fifth, 1:22:08; James Lawrence 29th, 1:30:05; Arlo Morse 32nd, 1:31:14; Grady Weimer 55th, 1:36:25.

    Varsity girls: Ella Gerber 12th, 1:40:26.
