Crowds enjoyed another Northeast Texas Beef Improvement Organization Cattleman’s Classic and Ribeye Roundup, feasting on appetizers and expertly cooked steaks while listening to great music and enjoying a beautiful fall day..
Around 30 teams competed in the 2024 event, held Saturday, Oct. 5 at Celebration Plaza. Event organizers said this number was on par with last year’s event.
Attendees enjoyed live music all day as they waited eagerly for the meal service portion of the program.
The day’s live musical entertainment was provided by Seth Ward and Jason Waldon and the Alibis.
Attendees also had a chance to go through an educational exhibit explaining various aspects of the beef industry and how beef goes from pasture to plate.
Changes
This year’s event debuted a brand new festival- style format. Adult cook teams had just one round of competition, rather than the two-round format from previous years. They also had an extended timeline for competition prep and turn in. Changes to this year’s event, “I’ve had nothing but positive comments about the new format,” said Kregg Slakey, an event organizer.
The day’s overall timeline was reduced, with the event ending at 5 p.m., rather than 10 p.m. as in previous years.
Each of the winners was recognized, with top winners receiving trophies and monetary prizes. First winners of the adult division and both kid divisions received belt buckles.
