The switch from the minor chords in the verse to all major in the chorus is such a beautiful Sheryl trick. It grooves and makes you tap your feet, but lyrically it’s about heartbreak. I’m a fan of sad songs that sound happy and this one is the gold standard of those."The First Cut Is the Deepest"Believe it or not, this song was a hit for six different artists. The only version I ever knew growing up though was Sheryl Crow. This is a beautiful reminder that an artist doesn’t have to write a song for it to become their own. One of my favorite songs lyrically of all time, and nothing will ever compare to Sheryl’s 2003 release of it. (Also, fun fact, this song was written in 1967 by Cat Stevens.)</div></body>
