The 43rd Street Deli & Breakfast House in Gainesville was cited for 17 violations during a routine inspection by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation on September 23, 2024.

State records revealed that the popular breakfast and brunch spot, located at 4410 NW 25th Place in Alachua County, totaled 6 high-priority, 1 intermediate, and 10 basic violations.

A follow-up inspection on October 7, 2024, showed improvement, with only one high-priority violation remaining. However, state records indicate that a second review is still needed.

The initial inspection disclosed several food safety infractions, primarily related to unsuitable food storage and temperature management.

High-priority infractions included raw animal foods found to be stored incorrectly, which was highlighted as food safety issues. Time/temperature management for safety foods was held at temperatures above the required degrees in cook line grill drawers.

Other high-priority violations included an employee touching their face before handling clean equipment without washing hands and date-marked food not eaten/served within the required 7-day period.

The intermediate violation concerned dirty food-contact surfaces on a can opener blade. Basic violations ranged from equipment cleanliness issues to unsuitable storage of single-service articles.

The follow-up inspection on October 7, 2024, found one remaining high-priority violation, requiring a second review.

43rd Street Deli & Breakfast House currently holds a 4.5-star rating from 857 Google reviews.

A recent customer and local guide named Jennifer Godshalk, shared on Google reviews:

My husband got the traditional breakfast with nettles sausage (our favorite) and I got my usual, a side of corned beef hash, with the slices of bacon. Delicious as always!

    • Unsuitable storage of raw animal foods
    • Time/temperature management for safety foods held at incorrect temperatures
    • Employee handling clean equipment without proper handwashing
