Drew Barrymore Praised For Getting A Mammogram On National TV: “You Are Helping To Take The Fear Away”

Drew Barrymore continues to push the boundaries of daytime television. Nearly one year after a man got a vasectomy on The Drew Barrymore Show , the actress made the bold decision to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month by getting a mammogram on this morning’s episode.

“When we hear the words breast cancer and mammogram, I know that it can bring up a lot of fear and anxiety and a lot of pushback of, I don’t want to deal with it and if I don’t deal with it, it will go away,” Barrymore explained at the top of the episode.

The talk show host added that her mission today was to “eliminate” that kind of behavior.

“Later in the show, I’m gonna take my top off and I’m gonna do a mammogram right here on the show,” she continued. “And it’s just to once again have my top off on television and also just — I’m very happy to show everybody what I force myself to do every single year.”

When the time came for her mammogram, Barrymore wore a hospital gown as the technician walked her through the process right from the Drew Barrymore Show stage.

“Take my breast out,” Barrymore instructed, before joking, “I’ve never done a mammogram in heels. This is different.”

Meanwhile, fans of the actress praised her on social media for helping to remove the stigma surrounding mammograms.

“Bravo Drew for willing to be vulnerable (literally) in sharing the mammogram process,” one commented on Instagram, while another added, “Walking women through these incredibly important procedures 💙 now that is empowerment. Women supporting women.”

A third person wrote, “Absolutely the most heartfelt show of love and solidarity I have ever seen.”

Someone else gushed, “As a breast cancer survivor and warrior myself, thank you so much for doing this!! You are helping to take the fear away and you will save lives as a result!!”
