The Kentucky women’s basketball program has garnered an unprecedented amount of excitement over the course of this offseason. It all started with the hiring of Kenny Brooks , and then things continued to trend upward from there. Brooks put together an impressive staff and a talented roster headlined by All-American point guard Georgia Amoore .

With November 4th rapidly approaching, the KSR crew took a stab at what they think is to come this season for Kenny Brooks’ squad in year one of his tenure in Lexington.

    Phoenix Stevens

Record Prediction: 20-8 | NCAA Tournament Finish: Sweet 16

Following his arrival, Kenny Brooks put together a roster and staff that can be very competitive amongst its SEC foes. Still, conference play is going to be a beast unlike any other, so the ‘Cats need to capitalize on non-conference wins early. I think Kentucky gets a win over Louisville, but they fall to North Carolina on the road and to a much-improved Illinois team in the Music City Classic. Then, I think Kentucky will go 10-6 in SEC play and make a run to Sweet 16 to put a bow on a successful first year of the Kenny Brooks era.

Record Prediction: 20-8 | NCAA Tournament Finish: Sweet 16

This season is going to be unlike any other for Kentucky women’s basketball. With the amount of talent on the team, I’m expecting of a historic year. Considering last year’s 12-20 finish, this basically brand-new team should exceed all expectations. My prediction is 20-8, with losses coming from Louisville, North Carolina, Texas, South Carolina, LSU and once against Georgia plus a pair of games that we probably shouldn’t have lost, but did anyways. I understand that’s optimistic, but after taking a long look at the schedule, the pre-SEC season doesn’t look extremely difficult. Louisville, UNC and Illinois are the only three opponents ranked in ESPN’s Way-Too-Early Top 25 . However, I expect Kentucky to drop a random game to a team we shouldn’t lose to. It happens every year. The Sweet 16 finish isn’t as optimistic though. I would almost guarantee that Kentucky makes it to the NCAA Tournament, but I’m not sure the ‘Cats will be able to hold their own against teams like UConn, USC and UCLA.

    Tyler Thompson

Record Prediction: 21-7 | NCAA Tournament Finish: 2nd Round

Even though it’s a complete reset, it’s only up for Kentucky women’s basketball in Kenny Brooks’ first season. I won’t pretend to know the team as well as Phoenix or Katie, but there’s no denying the excitement surrounding the program under Brooks, nor the talent he’s bringing in, namely Georgia Amoore and Clara Strack , who followed him from Virginia Tech. Getting an entirely new roster to mesh may take some time, but given the experience and skill of this group, I think they’ll make some noise down the stretch, giving Kentucky fans a much-needed opportunity to cheer for both the men’s and women’s teams in March.

    Jack Pilgrim

Record Prediction: 20-8 | NCAA Tournament Finish: Sweet 16

The conversation starts with Georgia Amoore, Kenny Brooks bringing his All-American point guard with him to Lexington to anchor a clear top-25 group. The SEC will be tough, but there is a lot to like with a frontcourt featuring the likes of Clara Silva and Clara Strack, plus guard Dazia Lawrence to pair with Amoore in the backcourt. Excitement surrounding the women’s basketball program is at an all-time high, and I expect Coach Brooks to capitalize on that excitement in year one.

    Nick Roush

Record Prediction: 18-10 | NCAA Tournament Finish: 1st Round

It’s always great to look at the schedule and only see South Carolina and LSU once apiece. Even so, the SEC isn’t for the faint of heart. Kenny Brooks has hit all of the right buttons to turn around this program, but he deserves some time to get his ducks in line. The ‘Cats will probably lose a few games they shouldn’t, but they should be able to pull off an upset or two. The ‘Cats will probably be on the bubble around NCAA Tournament time, but I won’t mind one bit at all if they can secure a victory over Louisville.

    Zack Geoghegan

Record Prediction: 19-9 | NCAA Tournament Finish: Sweet 16

Kenny Brooks will immediately make his statement as Kentucky’s new head coach with a signature win over Louisville just four games into the season. The Wildcats will suffer a couple of non-conference losses after that to Illinois and North Carolina before facing the SEC gauntlet, which could have as many as seven ranked teams once the season begins, Kentucky included. Conference play will be even tougher than it usually is, but Brooks will lead the ‘Cats to a winning league record as Georgia Amoore makes All-SEC First Team. UK will then make a Sweet 16 for the first time since 2016.

    Daniel Hager

Record Prediction: 18-10 | NCAA Tournament Finish: 2nd Round

It’s an exciting time for Kentucky women’s basketball, as Kenny Brooks has brought juice to a program desperately in need of a major spark. Just making the NCAA Tournament would be a major improvement, as the ‘Cats have made it just three times since 2018. I expect Brooks’ talented squad, led by All-American Georgia Amoore, to make some noise and win at least one NCAA Tournament game this season.
