The Texas Tech Red Raiders men's golf team finished Monday's Day 1 of the Big 12 Match Play Tournament undefeated. On Tuesday during Day 2, they fell short against Colorado in the morning bout but returned in the afternoon to win their second match against Cincinnati at Houston Oaks Country Club.
That means Texas Tech will play in the fifth-place match on Wednesday morning against Oklahoma State to end the event for the Red Raiders.
After losing 1-1-3 to the Buffaloes, the Red Raiders fell into a tie for first place in Pool D - which also has Baylor, Colorado and TCU. It put Texas Tech into a tie with the Bears based on their total of six points after wins over Baylor and TCU on Monday during Day 1 play.
Because of the tie-breaker rules which utilize total match points, it didn't matter that the Red Raiders had already beaten Baylor. Baylor led based on 8.5 total points to Tech's 7.5. It also put the semifinal match on Tuesday afternoon out of reach for the Red Raiders.
In the second match, Texas Tech beat Cincinnati 3-2-0. Charlie DeLong won his third overall match of the event while Sean Keeling won his first.
All teams will tee off on Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. CT to wrap up the tournament.
