Dodgers signing trade deadline acquisition in free agency is 'plausible'

The Los Angeles Dodgers opened up the checkbook last offseason to sign Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow and Teoscar Hernández.

This offseason the Dodgers could once again spend big, but on someone they already have in the clubhouse. The team traded for Jack Flaherty at the deadline and Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller called him singing with the Dodgers in free agency a "plausible" outcome.

"Corbin Burnes staying with the Orioles is at least plausible. Same goes for Max Fried with Atlanta, Blake Snell with the Giants and Jack Flaherty with the Dodgers," Miller wrote of potential free agents resigning with their current teams.

Flaherty was a key piece for the Dodgers rotation that saw Yamamoto, Glasnow and Clayton Kershaw go down with injuries. With Kershaw's future up in the air and Walker Buehler hitting free agency, the Dodgers could be looking for a starting pitcher as is.

Flaherty is a Los Angeles native and has a 3.17 ERA this year. He has a 3.58 ERA since joining the Dodgers at the trade deadline. Spotrac projects Flaherty to sign a three-year, $60 million deal in free agency.

While there will be other options on the market, Flaherty has already shown what he can do for the Dodgers. He will also be a cheaper option than Blake Snell or Corbin Burnes.

Snell was involved in a verbal altercation with Manny Machado in Game 2 of the National League Division Series. He has already become part of the division rivalry and could become part of it in the future if the Dodgers ink him to a new deal.
