Slayer fans can now get an unprecedented look into the band’s history with the launch of the Slaytanic Verses digital museum .

The virtual museum opens the band members’ personal archives to reveal previously unseen photos, rare memorabilia, music instruments, artwork, and stories from Slayer’s 40-plus-year career.

The first “exhibit” available upon the launch of the museum, “Live Assaults: 1981 Through Today,” focuses on the band’s live performances over the years and “will evoke memories of past concerts and provide a new perspective, by taking them backstage with items dating to the band’s 1981 inception in Huntington Park, CA,” per a press release.

Arranged in an archival gallery format, the initial offerings are sure to delight hardcore fans. Among the highlights at a glance:

    • A flyer for Slayer’s first show at a Battle of the Bands in 1981
    • A truly incredible set of photos from a 1982 Slayer gig that see the band in full glam-like garb, before the Satanic aesthetic when they were still emulating the NWOBHM style
    • Photos from an encounter with Mercyful Fate from 1984, complete with an un-painted King Diamond
    • The Reign in Blood tour press kit (we have a particular fondness for this one!)
    • Videos and photos from the band’s farewell tour in 2019

That barely cracks the surface, and the band’s press release states that the archive “will be constantly updated” with new content. The museum is mandatory viewing for any Slayer fan — and a great primer for anyone planning to catch their reunion set at Aftershock on Thursday (October 10th).
