Steelers' Russell Wilson Returns to Full Practice; Available vs. Raiders?

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson injured his calf on the first day of training camp this year and hasn't seen the field in the regular season. That could change soon.

For the first time in over a calendar month, Wilson is expected to participate in a full practice as the team prepares for its Week 6 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET.

That doesn't mean Wilson will be available to play against the Raiders, as the team is using caution in his return.

"We're in a little bit different place with Russ this week than we have been in recent weeks," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday. "I just met with him and the training staff in preparation for (Wednesday). Tomorrow will be the first Wednesday that he'll be a scheduled full participant. We'll see what that leads us first. We'll see if he's able to pull it off and get through the session.

"And if he does, what is the quality of that work look like, his ability to protect himself, etc, some of the conversations that we've been having, but just been having more in a hypothetical way? He's at the part of health now where we can work on Wednesday without restrictions, and so we'll do so."

Wilson was named the starter for Pittsburgh's season-opening matchup with the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 8 but aggravated his calf injury the week before. Backup Justin Fields led the team to a 3-0 start but the Steelers have lost their last two and have struggled offensively all season.
