MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The man accused of being the “mastermind” behind the killing of Memphis rapper Young Dolph appeared in court on Wednesday morning.

Hernandez Govan is facing charges of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and attempted first-degree murder.

November 22 is Govan’s last day for any guilty plea. His trial date was set for March 10, 2025.

During the trial last month, Cornelius Smith testified that Memphis rapper Yo Gotti’s brother, Anthony “Big Jook” Mims, put a $100,000 hit on Young Dolph. Smith then identifies Govan as the person who set up the deal.

Both Smith and Govan are facing the same charges.

Smith also testified that after Govan orchestrated the deal, he and Justin Johnson shot Young Dolph. Johnson was found guilty of the murder.

Prosecutors say Smith’s case has been reset until November. At this time, it is unclear how this will affect Govan and his case, but prosecutors say they are determined to ensure everyone involved is held accountable.

“We will continue to make sure that all of those who are responsible for Young Dolph’s death get the punishment they deserve,” Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy said outside court.

Jermarcus Johnson , who is Justin’s half-brother, pleaded guilty to three counts of accessory after the fact and has a court hearing on Wednesday as well.
