Hurricane Milton is big, but somehow, the story of a Florida Man whose nickname is "Lieutenant Dan" is
bigger. Meteorologists all across the country have been scared to see just how strong Hurricane Milton has gotten as it's rotated in the Gulf of Mexico. Florida is now bracing for what appears to be a Category 5 hurricane that will reportedly bring
once-in-a-century damage to the state. Particularly in the Tampa area, where the storm is expected to make landfall later today. Some forecasts and models are predicting storm surges as high as 10 to 15 feet. Forecasted surges like that have obviously called for evacuations all across the state. But there’s one man that’s positioned in the Tampa Harbor that is refusing to budge, and he
goes by the name “Lieutenant Dan.” The one-legged-man currently calls a 20-foot sailboat home, and he’s apparently refusing to leave the area because God told him to come there in the first place. His story is captivating the nation - if not the
world - as many are worried for the Florida Man whose actual name is Joseph Malinowski. But the Florida man isn't even worried about Hurricane Milton one bit, and continues to insist that a boat is the safest place to be when a cat-5 storm hits. It's truly a bold strategy - one fitting for a man who has been nicknamed "Lieutenant Dan." We just recently got another update straight from the man himself thanks to another concerned citizen that went to check on Joseph Malinowski in the Tampa Harbor. The Florida Man is staying true to his word, isn't planning on leaving, and implied that he's a lot like Noah from the Biblical flood in the Old Testament:
"I'm not going anywhere. The safest place to be in a flood is on a boat. Okay? We learned that with Noah. Everyone that stayed on land drowned. Noah and the animals lived. I'm fine." A wonderful follow up question of, "Do you have any animals?" was pitched to Malinowski, to which he replied that he unfortunately did not. And when help was offered up once again, the man who is primarily known by the name of the iconic character from
Forrest Gump stayed true to what he's been saying this entire time - and took some shots at the people who have evacuated the area:
"If the tide goes up, I go up. As long as the water stays out of the boat, I'll be fine. It's not a tornado. (My boat) isn't going to get lifted up and thrown to Kansas. I'm putting it into God's hands and taking it out of my damn hands... I love you all and I thank you for the concern. I'm not nutty. I'm just doing what my Father told me to do. I don't go with the grain. I'm against the grain. You're all robots. You're all sheep, following the masses. I'm the black sheep. I'm the one that does what I feel is right." https://twitter.com/BrianEntin/status/1844028080618393818 May God bless "Lieutenant Dan."
