The only thing worse than running out of your favorite snack is finding out that it has been unexpectedly pulled from shelves. There could be dozens of reasons as to why a brand might make such a decision, one of the most common being a product recall . Not always the most exciting news to receive, product recalls do exist, however, as a comforting sign that our favorite foods are being handled and distributed with the utmost care.

Subject to the latest trend of unexpected contaminates, Hammonds Candies recently announced a recall of its 4-ounce bags of Dark Chocolate Filled Mini Waffle Cones. Fans of the brand's popular waffle cone treat should take heed, as the recall was issued due to the potential presence of an undeclared milk. And if you have a predisposed allergy or severe sensitivity to milk, consumption of such could result in serious or life-threatening allergic reactions.

The official recall announcement came on September 5—though published by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration on October 3—and is in effect for upwards of 38 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia and more. A full list of the states in which the waffle cones were distributed can be found here .

The specific Hammond’s Dark Chocolate Filled Mini Waffle Cones in question are packaged in a 4-ounce stand-up, resealable bag, with UPC - 6 91355 90513 5 printed on the label. The item number for this product is FC23212, and the recalled product codes are listed as LN0525453 and LN0525453. Customers should also look for “Use By” dates of 03/20/2025 and 05/20/2025, both of which can be found printed on the lower-center region on the backside of the packaging.

As of now, only one report of an allergic reaction has been reported in connection with the identified problem. The recall was swiftly initiated after the first report of an allergic reaction was received. The product was then tested and found to contain more than trace amounts of milk proteins, which is not indicated anywhere on the packaging.

While the investigation is still ongoing, Hammonds encourages consumers who have purchased one of the packages in question to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Anyone who has further questions on the matter are also welcome to reach out to Devon DeVries at Hammond’s Candies at 1-888-226-3999 or at 303-333-5588 extension 180 Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. MST.
