The Detroit Lions have emerged as rumored contenders for a major trade, with reports linking the team to a potential blockbuster deal.

As Detroit eyes another serious playoff push, they are actively seeking ways to bolster their roster and address any remaining weaknesses on the field. With injuries affecting key positions and the defense ranking in the bottom half of the league in yards allowed, adding a high-impact player could be exactly what they need.

The target in question is Budda Baker, the Arizona Cardinals' All-Pro safety.

Baker has been a hot name in trade discussions ever since he requested a trade back in April 2023, aiming for either a fresh start or a new contract.

The 27-year-old safety is currently playing under a $59 million contract and has consistently been one of the league's top defensive playmakers. His career stats include 737 tackles, 7.5 sacks, seven interceptions, six forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries, showcasing his versatility and game-changing abilities.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox mentioned the Lions as a potential suitor for Baker on Wednesday, citing the team's open Super Bowl window.

"The Detroit Lions, who have a fully-open Super Bowl window, should be interested," Knox said. "Detroit's defense has been better this year but ranks in the bottom half of the league in yards allowed. The Lions also recently placed safety Ifeatu Melifonwu on injured reserve."

This isn't the first time Baker has been linked to Detroit. Earlier in the year, Bleacher Report's Alex Kay proposed a trade scenario in which the Lions would send a 2026 third-round pick to the Cardinals in exchange for Baker.

“Budda Baker would be a fantastic fit in the Motor City not just for his immense skill, but also his cultural fit within the program head coach Dan Campbell has built,” said Kay.

Adding Baker to the Lions’ roster would not only upgrade the secondary but also bring a tone-setting leader into the locker room—an essential component for a team aiming to make a deep playoff run. With the trade deadline approaching, all eyes are on whether Detroit will make a bold move to acquire the $59 million star.
