The dominant victory was the Titan's best all-around performance in the eyes of head coach Justin Kammrad."A lot of it just came down to preparation during the week," Kammrad said. "We just hadn't put together a complete game yet. We had some highlight moments, but we wanted to get our team running on all cylinders. We emphasized that, and they bought into that. Our guys have continued to buy in week in and week out."The Titans have outscored their last two opponents -- Glenwood and TJ -- by a combined 111-21. Their dominant two-game stretch comes after some nail-biters in the first four weeks, such as an overtime win over ADM in Week 3.Senior quarterback Brady Hetzel threw for 298 yards and four scores on Friday, connecting with Leo Tatum for three scores. Hetzel has thrown for 1,269 yards and 14 scores with Tatum (16 catches, 372 yards, 7 TDs), Peyton Phippen (24 catches, 348 yards, 2 TDs) and Parker Stessman (12 catches, 192 yards, 2 TDs) have been his favorite targets.The ground game has also been successful, producing 1,048 yards at 5.9 yards per carry with Brody Patlan (303 yards, 2 TDs), Chance Chappell (260 yards, 9 TDs), Jacob Jefferis (201 yards) and Braydan Doss (184 yards, 2 TDs). The Titans' offense has averaged 40.0 points per game -- the second-most in Class 4A behind only Gilbert (40.83)."The one area we were concerned about going into last week was our passing efficiency," Kammrad said. "The focus has been on getting that to where we want and getting our running back room where we want it. And none of that happens without our guys up front. We just continue to improve each week."Defensively, Lewis Central has held opponents to 13.33 points per game. That is third in Class 4A behind Decorah (12.33) and North Scott (13.17). Paxton Blanchard (30.5 tackles, 10 TFL, 1 sack), Joseph Monge (18.5 tackles, 9.5 TFL, 4 sacks) and Kyler McNeal (19.5 tackles, 6.5 TFL, 2 sacks) have led a defense that has recovered seven fumbles and produced 11 interceptions. Those 11 interceptions lead Class 4A, led by Stessman (4), Tatum (3) and Phippen (2)."That (the defense) was an area we were worried about coming in," Kammrad said. "Our coaching staff has done an unbelievable job coaching them up week in and week out. Our guys rally to the football and have been optimistic with turnovers."Lewis Central has a crucial Class 4A District 6 matchup with Winterset Friday night. The Huskies are 4-2 overall and 1-1 in district play. They opened district action with a 17-8 loss to Norwalk before rallying last week to beat Glenwood 29-21."You turn on the film and you notice right away that they play with energy, are going to be fast and are physical," Kammrad said. "They give you different looks defensively and move guys around."Winterset's offense has revolved around senior running back Hank Wilmes, who has rushed for 941 yards and nine scores at 6.4 yards per carry."He does an unbelievable job of moving his feet and breaking tackles," Kammrad said of Wilmes. "He's a big, strong kid. We'll have to rally to the football and have multiple guys at the point of attack. They do a great job of getting him in different spots.
