ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Many residents in the state of Florida, especially those in Pinellas County in the Tampa Bay area, packed up their cars and evacuated the state before the dangerous Hurricane Milton makes its way there.

One of the residents who evacuated the state included 'The Chris and Amy Show' listener Brad (call start at 34:45) who called in to the show Wednesday to tell KMOX listeners about the morale down in Florida right now.

"The morale there in that area, people are walking around with basically blank stares in their face right now," said Brad on 'The Chris and Amy Show' Wednesday. "From Clearwater, all the way down to Treasure Island, people have lost everything."

"You see it on TV, but until you are actually in it, you can't believe fathom the destruction that happened with Helene and then with this storm coming on top."

Brad says he decided to evacuate after recently experiencing Helene which saw water reached halfway into his front yard and almost into his house.

"I've been through Irma, Ian, and I can remember some of the older storms, but when this one popped up, that was it and I couldn't do it," said Brad.

Brad, who has lived near Indian Rock Beach in Florida since 2009, managed to sneak out Florida late-night Monday and reached his parents house in O'Fallon, Missouri Tuesday night said that a trip that would normally take him 14 hours took him a lot longer.

"I'm believing based on the traffic that I saw, the drive from my house to my parents house which is normally about 14 hours, it took me over 20 hours to get here," said Brad. "Got here about 8 p.m. last night."

As it gets closer they as it gets closer they should really consider opening both sides of the freeway to go north. Plenty of places do this. It works great. The police and emergency can take side roads.
