    Southern Nash spikers rally to beat Knights in 5

    Northern Nash was looking to pull the upset after taking the first two sets, but Southern Nash won the final three to defeat the Knights 23-25, 23-25, 25-13, 25-15, 15-6 in a Big East 2A/3A Conference volleyball match on Tuesday in Red Oak.

    Ava Pate led the Ladybirds with 27 kills while Carlee Beckham added 13 kills and 20 digs and Savanna Baines chipped in with six kills.

    Washington 3, SWE 0

    SouthWest Edgecombe dropped to 0-10 in the Eastern Plains 2A Conference and 1-16 overall following a league loss at Washington on Tuesday.

    The Pam Pack (7-4 EPC, 8-5 overall) won 26-24, 25-17, 25-13.

    NECP 3, Bertie 0

    North East Carolina Prep evened their Four Rivers 1A Conference record at 5-5 and improved to 5-8 overall by sweeping the Falcons three sets to none in a league match at home on Tuesday.

    Bertie fell to 3-6 in the conference and 3-8 overall.

    RMP 3, KIPP Pride 1

    Rocky Mount Prep earned its second win of the season by defeating KIPP Pride three sets to one in a Tar Roanoke 1A Conference match on Tuesday.

    The Jaguars improved to 2-9 in league play and 2-9 overall, while KIPP Pride dropped to 2-11 in the conference and 2-11 overall.

    Tarboro 3, WCU 1

    The Vikings picked up their first win of the season by handling Washington County three sets to one in a Four Rivers 1A Conference match on Tuesday in Plymouth.

    Tarboro emerged 1-10 in the conference and 1-15 overall, while Washington County fell to 1-7 in league play and 1-8 overall.

    FCS 1, Liberty Christian 0

    A second-half goal from Mason Coley off an assist from Tanner Belk was the difference as Faith Christian edged Liberty Christian in a nonconference match at home on Tuesday.

    The Patriots emerged 7-7 overall while the Heat fell to 4-11-1.

    (WOMEN’S SOCCER)

    WPU 2, Wesleyan 1

    A goal from Lily Rust at 75:46 of the second half was the difference as William Peace University slipped past North Carolina Wesleyan 2-1 in a USA South Conference women’s soccer match on Wednesday afternoon at Scalf Field.

    The Bishops fell to 2-2-1 in the conference and 4-8-1 overall, while WPU improved to 1-2 in the league and 3-3-2 overall.

    Mia Rumachik tallied the first goal for WPU at 7:46 of the first half.

    Wesleyan tied it at 1-all on an unassisted goal from Mia Scherber at 28:52 of the first half.

    Wesleyan held a 7-4 advantage in total shots and led 4-3 in shots on goal and corner kicks (4-1).

    Eden Whiteside and Nicole Yago each had two shots (one shot on goal) for the Bishops, while Scherber and Makena Meyer each collected on shot on goal.

    Grace Walls tended goal for 90 minutes, allowed two goals and made one save for Wesleyan.

    Up Next: Wesleyan continues its USA South Conference schedule at 2 p.m. on Saturday with a match against Salem in Winston-Salem.
