<body><div>It's been about half a year since the New York Jets made a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles to secure star edge-rusher Haason Reddick, but he has yet to make his debut for the team. Reddick, who is in the last year of his contract, is holding out for a longer deal, and neither side has budged an inch thus far, according to reports.At age 30, this could very well be Reddick's last chance at a major contract, but at the same time, he could be harming his value by sitting out and failing to put good plays on film. The team is still very much alive in a surprisingly lackluster AFC East, but with a 2-3 record, things are trending in the wrong direction after an offseason full of optimism. The defense has been better than the offense, but not quite as elite as it was a season ago.While this could be a symptom of long minutes spent on the field due to offensive inefficiency, this wasn't a problem last year with an even weaker Jets offense, and many believe that another edge-rusher could be a missing piece of sorts. Nevertheless, Reddick continues to hold out and has even been discussed by media voices as a potential candidate to go on the move with yet another trade ahead of this year's deadline in early November if he and the Jets are unable to reach a deal.Rarely have we seen an owner be as vocal about a player holdout as Johnson, but of course, holding out well into the regular season is a fairly unprecedented move as well. As rough of a start as it's been for New York, they still have the ability to achieve all of their preseason goals, so Reddick's unwillingness to go out and be a part of it continues to be harmful to the team.Of course, it's equally confusing that the Jets haven't given in to his salary demands. They certainly have the salary cap space to make it work, and materially harming the team's prospects for this season and beyond over relatively minute details feels unwise. With only a few more weeks to go until the deadline, soon we'll finally see how this drawn-out situation will resolve itself.</div></body>
