Aaron Rodgers makes it clear how he feels about New York Jets' Robert Saleh replacement

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers supported the organization's choice of Jeff Ulbrich to step up as the team's interim head coach following Robert Saleh's firing on Tuesday. The four-time league MVP also said that he has no issues with whatever midseason changes Ulbrich makes to the team's playbook, as they currently sit at a 2-3 record.

Rodgers, who has built a reputation for being totally candid in his public appearances, addressed the situation during a live segment on the latest episode of The Pat McAfee Show . The episode aired just one day after the news officially broke.

McAfee wasted no time and got straight to the point, asking Rodgers about the Jets decision to elevate Ulbrich from defensive coordinator . Ulbrich held the role for the past three seasons and is reportedly known around the organization as a fan-favorite with the players.

“I’m on board with whatever he decides [to do or change]," Rodgers said, emphasizing his trust in Ulbrich’s leadership. "I want to do what’s best for the team." Rodgers shouldered some of the blame for Saleh's dismissal. The veteran QB acknowledged that his performance in last week's London loss to the Minnesota Vikings may have contributed to Saleh's exit. The Jets fell 23-17, and Rodgers threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns. But his three interceptions proved costly and ultimately sealed the Jets' fate, as they lost to a Vikings team that committed 11 penalties, lost a fumble, and turned the ball over with an interception.

Saleh’s departure comes after a conspiracy theory suggested that the veteran passer purposely played poorly to get rid of the head coach. He finished his four-year coaching tenure with a 20-36 record and a 35 percent winning percentage. But the Jets quarterback quickly dismissed the rumors and expressed his respect for his former coach . Rodgers also encouraged the New York fanbase to show humanity to Saleh and his family following the accusations.

"I love Coach Saleh. We have a very solid relationship. We have since I met him in 2021.," said Rodgers. "I had a nice conversation when they visited us for joint practices. He was a big reason why I came to the Jets."

"I felt like the team was a solid team. I had a relationship with Coach [Nathaniel] Hackett, obviously, and I really liked Coach Salah," he continued. "I just had a lot of respect for him and it was just a reminder yesterday of how tough the business is."

Rodgers also admitted during the interview that changes were required during the first five weeks of the year and that players should feel responsible for Saleh's removal. The Jets have an upcoming divisional rivalry matchup against the Buffalo Bills , which will be Ulbrich's first real test in his new role.
