Vice President Kamala Harris called out “so-called leaders” for “misleading” the public about Hurricane aid devastating parts of the country.

As efforts are being made to provide aid to victims of Hurricane Helene , misinformation being spread online has hampered FEMA and the Biden administration attempts to provide relief. On Wednesday, Hurricane Milton made landfall in the Florida coastal region.

Former President Donald Trump is one of the leaders responsible for spreading false allegations about the relief effort by stating the Biden administration has allocated “almost all of the FEMA money to illegal migrants.” Over the weekend, Trump also said at a rally that storm victims were only receiving $750 from recovery services. This is not accurate; the $750 is intended as an initial payment for immediate needs and is not the total amount of relief that will be made available.

During a Wednesday interview on CNN with anchor Dana Bash , Harris slammed leaders for spreading “dangerous” misinformation.

BASH: President Biden talked about in this briefing and each of you has talked about many times over the past few days, which is this dangerous misinformation that is coming from a lot of corners, including your opponent in the race for the White House. Several local Republican leaders have been pleading with them to stop. Have you spoken to GOP officials in Florida to figure out how to help combat that right now as it’s about to get a whole lot worse?

HARRIS: Well, I’ll tell you, I have spoken with local officials who have been struggling, for example, by Hurricane Helene, and they are doing an extraordinary job in trying to combat the misinformation. And I’m talking about sheriffs. I’m talking about mayors, I’m talking about local officials. I don’t even know their party affiliation, by the way. But leaders on the ground who know that it is not in the best interest of the people living in those areas to not know their rights, not to know what they’re entitled to, and to be afraid of seeking help. It is dangerous. It is unconscionable, frankly, that anyone who would consider themselves a leader would mislead desperate people to the point that those desperate people would not receive the aid to which they are entitled. And that’s why I call it dangerous. And we all know it’s dangerous and the gamesmanship has to stop. At some point, the politics have to end, especially in a moment of crisis…We know the desperation and the fear that the folks who are attempting to evacuate Florida are experiencing. The last thing that they deserve is to have a so-called leader, make them more afraid than they already are.

Explain why they are not helping their own???? U.S. Marines were tapped to support disaster relief efforts in the Philippines after a typhoon wrought torrential wind and rain to the country's northernmost islands last week, the service announced Saturday.Typhoon Krathon -- known as Julian, locally -- made landfall in the country on Sept. 30, with hundreds of families evacuated and nearly 1,500 homes destroyed in the path of the northern-moving storm, the governor of one of the provinces said last week.
