Long Beach police arrested a suspect after calling in a SWAT team to scour an apartment building’s attic crawl space where he was believed to be hiding.

Officers surrounded the building on Newport Avenue near Seventh Street and began evacuating apartments after the suspect refused to come out Wednesday.

Police declined to say what the suspect was wanted for.

“The situation is fluid, and the investigation is ongoing,” Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Alyssa Baeza said in an email.

SWAT officers arrived at the scene around 1 p.m., and they began clearing apartments and attic spaces as they searched for the suspect.

Police said around 6 p.m. that the suspect was taken into custody and was being booked onto Long Beach City Jail.
