The Red Cross plays a pivotal role in sheltering people before and after storms. For the second time in two weeks the Red Cross is racing against the clock to mobilize volunteers in Florida. "It's a monster storm and it will require a lot of resources to help the communities that are impacted," says Red Cross Greater New York CEO Doreen Howe. Howe spoke to News 12's Nadia Galindo from an Orlando hotel where she is helping coordinate volunteers at a makeshift deployment shelter for the Red Cross. Howe lives in Lefferts Gardens and said there are a total of 55 volunteers from the Greater New York Region. "It's about getting supplies where they need to be and sheltering and supporting individuals and families that need us," said Howe.
