As rumors have started to swirl that All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams is on the trade block, the usual suspects have all been discussed as it pertains to his potential landing spot.

As the Las Vegas Raiders continue to struggle this season, particularly when it comes to consistent quarterback play, the idea that Adams would be shipped elsewhere has gone from possible to near-certain over the past week, becoming a "when, not if" proposition.

The New York Jets could make sense, reuniting with former Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers. The same could be said for the New Orleans Saints, where another former Adams quarterback would team up with him once again (Derek Carr). The Pittsburgh Steelers would make sense, as could the Buffalo Bills.

But one team that nobody seems to be talking about as an ideal fit for Adams is the Washington Commanders, but there are plenty of reasons why that could be the perfect match for all parties involved.

At this point in his career, the 31-year-old Adams likely wants to play for a contending team, preferably with a big-time quarterback who can make the most of his talents. While most wouldn't have considered Washington the kind of team that could check those boxes heading into the season, they've started fast with a 4-1 record, and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is already looking like a superstar.

The Commanders have a solid No. 1 receiver in Terry McLaurin, but there's a massive gap between him and the rest of the depth chart. Adding a star like Adams to the fold would keep opposing defenses from devoting all of their attention to McLaurin, and give Daniels another elite pass-catcher to help continue his rapid development.

They're also a team with the kind of salary cap space to absorb what's left of Adams' hefty contract, which carries a cap hit of $40 million for next season. They still have plenty of time on Daniels' rookie contract, giving them a massive window to take on high-salary veterans in the right situations, and Adams would certainly qualify.

Washington also has additional picks in the third and fifth rounds of next year's draft, giving them the kind of draft capital to acquire him, especially if they're willing to demand a lower price in return for taking on all of Adams' salary moving forward. It's likely that few other suitors (if any) would be willing and/or able to do so, which could drive down any potential compensation package below the reported "second-round pick and more" asking price.

Adams would get to play with a young and ascending quarterback who is already looking like one of the best in the league, for a team that has a legit shot to win their division and make a deep postseason run, and with another legit No. 1 receiver that could give him more 1-on-1 looks than he might get elsewhere.

Washington would get an All-Pro pass-catcher to help bolster their chances of making the playoffs and asserting themselves as the new team to beat in the NFC East, while the Raiders would get multiple draft picks in return without having to retain any of Adams' salary.

They may not be the obvious choice on the surface, but the more you look at it, Adams and the Commanders might just be the perfect fit.
