A woman who lost her son to gun violence and supports Vice President Kamala Harris said she is “distraught” after seeing herself featured in an ad attacking Harris.

Kimberly Burrell and several others who lost loved ones to gun violence sat down for an interview with NBC News in July. Her son, Darryl Pray Jr. , was shot to death at the age of 18 in 2009.

“Imagine the mother making minimum wage trying to feed children,” she said while tearing up. “They’re killing us without killing us.”

Those comments now appear in an anti-Harris attack ad released by the conservative Restoration PAC . The ad features clips of Harris touting Bideneomics, which it derides as a failure. After Burrell says, “They’re killing us without killing us,” a snippet of Harris saying, “That is called Bidenomics” appears. The vice president subsequently laughs.

In a Philadelphia Inquirer column by Helen Ubiñas published on Wednesday, Burrell said she had nearly forgotten about the NBC News interview until friends and family who saw the ad started reaching out to inform her.

    “I’m distraught,” she said.

“They can just steal your image and comments and twist it the way they want it to be twisted,” she added. “It’s just really sick.”

Ubiñas contacted Restoration PAC, which has received millions from billionaires Elizabeth and Richard Uihlein, who support Donald Trump for president.

“Your X feed indicates you are a hard-partisan with a strong case of Trump Derangement Syndrome — therefore you don’t need my help in cobbling together your biased column,” spokesperson Dan Curry said. “Have a blessed day.”

Ubiñas also sought to ascertain whether the ad violates any laws. One law professor she spoke with said PACs have “wide berth” to use such clips under the fair use doctrine. However, Burrell could mount a legal challenge if that ad misrepresents her views, but such lawsuits could be lengthy and expensive.
