Starz Cancels 'The Serpent Queen' After 2 Seasons, Queen Elizabeth I Spinoff In the Works

Sad news for fans of The Serpent Queen .

It was just announced on Wednesday evening (October 9) that the Starz drama series has been canceled after only two seasons on the network, according to Deadline .

However, a spinoff is also in development with Minnie Driver ‘s Queen Elizabeth I, who joined the series in season two .

The Serpent Queen starred Samantha Morton as the titular character, telling “the story of Catherine de Medici ( Morton ) who, against all odds, became one of the most powerful and longest-serving rulers in French history.”

It was based on the book “Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France” by Leonie Frieda .

The same creative team on The Serpent Queen , including writer/executive producer Justin Haythe and EP Erwin Stoff , is said to be working on the spinoff.

While no casting has been made official, it is expected Minnie Driver will reprise her role.
