FOXBOROUGH, Mass - Jerod Mayo sent a loud message with his opening statement on Wednesday morning.

The New England Patriots head coach spoke shortly after it was announced that safety Jabrill Peppers was being placed on the Commissioners Exempt List . This came after his arrest on Saturday for domestic violence and drug possession .

"Just to start off, on Jabrill [Peppers], I just want to be clear that really any act of domestic violence is unacceptable for us," Mayo stated. "As a team, no matter if you're a player, staff member, we're wholeheartedly against any type of domestic violence. I know the organization's position, which I fully support."

Peppers appeared in court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

"With that being said, I do think that Jabrill has to go through the system, has to continue to go through a due process, and we'll see how that works out," Mayo added. "What I will say is that the league has put him on the exempt list, and that will give us time to really gather more information going forward."

On Monday, Mayo said that Peppers was still welcomed back in the building, but based on this decision by the NFL, things have changed.

"At this time, he is not in the building. He's not in the building, and we'll talk about that at a later time," Mayo added. "I would say in the near term, he will not be in the building."

According to the Braintree Police, the alleged victim says that Peppers "hit her, choked her, took off her clothing and put her outside." She also told officers that Peppers had his hand on her neck and smashed her head against the wall before pushing her down the stairs, according to police reports.

Peppers was arrested and the woman was treated for injuries at home. They also found a substance in his wallet that was believed to be cocaine.

According to court documents, Peppers says that he asked the woman to leave numerous times and says that he never put his hands on her.

His attorney, Marc Brofsky, says that the evidence they have will "sheds real doubt on the allegations, including videotaped evidence."

He posted a $2,500 bail and has been ordered to stay away from the women.

After being added to the Commissioners Exempt List, Peppers is not allowed to practice or attend any games. He will still receive his salary.

"As a father of three daughters, I definitely understand the seriousness of the allegations, and hopefully, they're not true," Mayo said. "But we'll see. Like I said earlier, we'll go through that due process."
