Wichita woman arrested, accused of shooting son

A Wichita woman has been arrested after police say she shot her teenage son.

A woman called 911 just after 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning and told dispatchers that she shot her son.   Wichita Police Officers along with Sedgwick County EMS and Wichita Fire Department personnel, responded to the 9100 block of east Harry at the Claremont Apartments.

Officers located a boy, 16, inside an apartment with a single gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital where he remains in extremely critical condition.

Officers detained the woman, 46, who is the boy's mother. During the investigation, detectives learned of a previously unreported incident from March 2024 where the same suspect threatened an ex-husband and his current girlfriend with a gun.

The woman was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on the following charges:

• Aggravated Battery

• Aggravated Assault Domestic Violence

• Aggravated Assault

Investigators continue to gather information related to this case.  Once complete, it will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney for formal charging consideration.
