Patrick Mahomes shows true colors with wild antics at MLB Playoffs game

Kansas City royalty was in attendance at Kauffman Stadium as the Royals faced off against the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the ALDS.

On Wednesday, Patrick Mahomes was spotted cheering on his city’s baseball team - and it didn’t take long for the Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback to make his presence felt.

After the Yankees tacked on a run in the fourth and fifth inning, the Royals came roaring back in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at two apiece. Center fielder Kyle Isbel first clobbered a two-out double down the left field line to drive in a run. Moments later, he was brought home by second baseman Michael Massey, who dumped a triple past the diving glove of Juan Soto.

Mahomes could hardly contain his excitement while watching his team stage the massive comeback. Following Massey’s clutch hit, he rushed down the aisle towards Yankees fan Gehrig Dieter - Who played for the Chiefs in 2018 and 2020 - and got in the face of his former teammate.

Upon reaching Dieter, Mahomes appeared to repeatedly shout “What’s up!” while bumping into him. The ex-wide receiver appeared to get a kick out of the display, at one point jokingly squaring up to fight the signal-caller.

Prior to attending Wednesday night's game with his brother, Jackson, Mahomes joked that his decision to attend the game was a sore subject between him and his wife. "It's bye week, so Brittany's vacationing and me getting to the Royals game, we'll feud for sure," he said following the Chiefs' 26-13 win over the New Orleans Saints on 'Monday Night Football.'

Though Mahomes' utmost focus was on beating the Saints earlier this week, the 29-year-old conceded that he snuck several glances up at the scoreboard in Arrowhead Stadium to receive updates on the Royals-Yankees Game 2 score. Kansas City would eventually win the game 4-2, thereby tying the series 1-1.

"I really wanted to focus on the game and then let look after and maybe get, like, a scoreboard kind of shot of it," Mahomes said of the game updates from inside the stadium. "And they gave us a couple of those, but like, you could feel that stuff was going good, and there was kind of a lull there, kind of, I think, towards the end of the end of the game."

Mahomes is not only a fan of the Royals but also an owner, having bought a minority stake in the team back in 2020. He's additionally served as a coach of sorts in recent weeks, sharing advice on how to handle the pressure of playoffs with shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.

“We talk quite a bit,” Mahomes told The Associated Press. “I’ve texted him kind of throughout the season, and we’ve talked about slumps, and getting into the playoffs and everything like that. I stay in touch because even though we play different sports … we’re very similar in age. We grew up in the same type of area. And have the same type of upbringing.”
