Mount Olive needed just 32 seconds to do what Barton College failed to do in Wednesday afternoon’s women’s soccer match at Bulldogs Athletic Complex — score.
The early goal by Trojans’ Yaneli Sanchez was it in a 1-0 defeat for the Bulldogs that sent them to 4-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas action.
The Trojans (4-2-3, 3-2-1 CC) took 14 shots to seven by the Bulldogs. Senior goalkeeper Taylor Primack recorded two saves in the loss.
The Bulldogs will visit conference foe Chowan on Saturday at noon in Murfreesboro.

Skid deepens for Bulldogs in loss to Trojans
Barton’s losing streak hit nine matches Wednesday at Wilson Gymnasium as Mount Olive rallied from a 25-22 first-set loss to win the next three 25-15, 25-18, 25-19.
The Trojans (9-6, 6-2 CC) hit at a .235 clip compared to Barton’s .095 as the Bulldogs stumbled to 1-12 overall and 0-7 in conference play.
Henly Sleight put up a double-double of 20 digs and 14 kills while Hailey Strey and Isabella Ream combined for 39 assists.
Barton will host Lees-McRae on Friday evening.

Barton 4th at its Fall Intercollegiate
SNOW HILL — Barton settled for fourth place out of eight teams at its Fall Invitational that was played Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 7-8, at Cutter Creek Golf Club.
The Bulldogs posted a 54-hole total of 83-over-par 947 to finish 37 shots off the pace of winner Milligan (Tennessee) while Mount Olive was the runner-up at 58-over 922. Emmanuel was third with 60-over 924.
Terra Schmitt paced the Bulldogs with a score of 78-81-75—234 for 18-over and a tie for 11th place out of 53 players. Shelby Herbert (76-80-79—235) was a shot back and in a tie for 15th while Mackenzie Crossman (T19th, 81-76-81—238), Peyton Nichols (T22nd, 81-79-80—240) and Taylor Black (42nd, 90-83-84—257) accounted for the remainder of the top five for Barton.
Emmanuel’s Mara Martinez was the medalist with a 6-over 75-76-71—222 on the par-72, 7,327-yard layout.
Barton is back in action Oct. 28-29 at the Converse Fall Invite in Inman, South Carolina.

Bulldogs 11th at Hurricane Invitational
ALBANY, Ga. — In a 15-team field with nine ranked in the top 25 of NCAA Division II men’s golf teams, No. 24 Barton took 11th place at the Hurricane Invitational, played Monday and Tuesday at Doublegate Country Club.
The Bulldogs shot 11-over par in the middle of two even-par rounds in the 54-hole event on the par-72, 7,024-yard course. No. 2-ranked North Georgia scorched it for a tournament-record 29-under 835. No. 3 West Florida was second, nine strokes back while No. 5 Georgia Southwestern, the host school, was third.
The field also included No. 6 Lincoln Memorial, No. 10 Lee, No. 19 Columbus State, No. 12 USC Aiken and No. 21 Wingate.
Ryan Jahr tied for 29th with an even-par 216 to lead the Bulldogs, who complete the fall portion of their schedule Oct. 21-22 at the Currahee Collegiate Invitational in Toccoa, Georgia.
