To the editor: Undecided electorate conundrum

A recent Blade editorial cartoon showed a restaurant scene of an undecided voter saying, “Tough choice: Should I get the chicken or the soup bowl full of raw sewage?”

Seems to me that this is a spot-on example of the ridiculous, asinine pretense of a so-called undecided voter. What would it take to solidify the choice?

Rather than guessing, why not as the opinion of people who might actually know — the people who were in the room where it happened? The people the executive personally selected as his advisers.

Take for example former Vice President Mike Pence. He might know. Or former Chief of Staff John Kelly. Secretaries of Defense James Mattis and Mark Esper. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley. National Security Advisers John Bolton and H.R. McMaster. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. Attorney General Bill Barr.

None of these men who served under Donald Trump support his re-election. They served. They know. Their absence ought to warn each of us of the dangers to our nation of a second term of Donald Trump. Chicken or the soup bowl of raw sewage?

    Hurricane damage vs. DeSantis’ tenure

While I share thoughts and concerns along with the rest of the country over the devastation wrought upon the Southeastern states, I can’t help but wonder which will take Florida longer to recover from, Hurricane Helene or Ron DeSantis’ terms in office.

    Jesus as role model

It is my understanding that Christians follow Jesus and are to do as He would do. I am confused as to why so many Christians of whatever denomination follow Trump. Trump has publicly broken most Ten Commandments. He preaches negativity and fear. He promotes divisiveness and violence. He’s racist. He’s demeaning of women. He’s disrespectful of law and order and of the justice system. I think Trump is very un-Jesus like. So why do Christians want him as president?

    Editorial didn’t consider citizens

It’s very easy for you to support the invasion of nearly 15,000 non-English speaking people into a community of 58,000. You don’t live there. Did anyone ask the people of Springfield what they wanted? Did anyone ask the school administrators if they could handle this influx? Did anyone discuss the ramifications with the local law enforcement and insurance companies of so many people who are driving without necessary driving instruction? Without the consent of the governed, this forced implantation of foreigners is a gross misuse of our tax money and nothing short of treasonous.

Editor’s note: The Haitian immigrants were not sent to Springfield, Ohio; they chose to go there.

Save Republican Party by voting Democratic

We have an important election next month. I know our country has lost 42 percent of Republicans to the MAGA group and the lies of Trump and Vance. The people I am pleading with are the remaining Republicans who feel they are deserting their party if they vote for Harris.

You are not deserting your party; you are protecting your country. Your party will still be there after you help Harris win, and it will be the kind of party you will be proud of, one that stands for the values that made America great, a party that believes in compromise if it will better things for everyone. Please, help bring rejuvenated Republican Party into being by voting for Harris on Election Day.
