NBA Shows Respect for Steve Kerr

The Golden State Warriors haven't had the most successful last five seasons. Aside from winning the 2022 NBA Finals, the Warriors missed the playoffs three times in such a span. However, even with the baggage of multiple seasons without a playoff berth, the league perceives Steve Kerr as one of the best coaches.

The 2024 general poll produced by NBA.com showed the ultimate respect for Kerr. Winning four championships as a head coach leads to a solidified reputation, possibly immune to degradation. The Warriors won 46 games through a year of adversity.

In addition to Klay Thompson battling ego and personal demons as he struggled in his new role and with the idea of no longer being a star, Kerr found a way to convince the five-time All-Star to lead the bench, even if Thompson didn't do it with a smile. Furthermore, the ticking bomb of Draymond Green finally exploded.

Green only played 55 games due to multiple suspensions earned by striking and choking opponents. Kerr and Green don't always see eye to eye, but both respect each other as winners and understand they need each other to succeed.

The key to coaching isn't just Xs and Os, as Kerr took a chapter from Phil Jackson's book of handling multiple superstar egos to maintain multiple championship groups.

Seven percent of the NBA general managers saw Kerr as the best head coach in the game. Miami Heat's Erik Spoelstra took the crown with 69 percent of the vote, and the Oklahoma City Thunder's Mark Daigneault in second place at 17 percent.

The NBA moves fast, but not fast enough for the league to forget about Kerr's accomplishments.
