Suppose modern-day NBA fans believe that Victor Wembanyama faced excessive pressure to prove himself as a generational talent. In that case, they may have little understanding of the expectations placed upon LeBron James when he entered the NBA in 2003.

In a room full of prospects, The King set foot on the stage when a room full of reporters tried testing his nerves about being able to live up to the hype of being 'The Chosen One.' However, the Akron native showed composure and stunned the audience by displaying his team-first mentality rather than expressing his desire to prove his critics wrong.

Bron said he had faced pressure from long before

Having debuted for St. Vincent-St. Mary High School at just 14, the four-time MVP played his whole HS career there. During that time, he averaged 25.2 points, 5.0 assists, and 7.9 rebounds while shooting 55.8% from the field.

Moreover, during that period, James' team lost a game merely six times. Such impressive showings only intensified the nation's high expectations from the small forward. However, with those lofty expectations came significant pressure, and many questioned whether James was capable of making it in the NBA right out of high school.

So, reporters tested his nerves when he stood before the press for the first time, wanting to see if he could truly handle the pressure of the big stage. Nevertheless, the 18-year-old's calm demeanor only showed how he was unfazed by the magnitude of the moment.

"There's no pressure. There's no pressure at all. I've been getting pressure since I was 10… I'm just doing what I love to do, playing the game of basketball," LeBron said . "If I asked y'all that question, y'all would say the same thing. I mean, is there any pressure to ask me these questions, it's no pressure because y'all know how to do what y'all do right?"

Not only did he impress the media with his composure, but the young forward also demonstrated his focus on team success over personal achievements, emphasizing how his primary goal was to help elevate his team's overall caliber to win more games.

"I never say myself," LeBron added. " I say, my team. It's not about myself it's about how well as a team we can grow, as a family, and just get better every single day."

The King stood tall on his claims

Critics may argue that LeBron's rookie campaign did not match the immediate impact of legends like Larry Bird, who led the Boston Celtics to a league-best record, or Magic Johnson, who won the Finals MVP honor in his first season. In contrast, the Akron native couldn't even lead his team to the playoffs or get an All-Star nod.

On the other hand, that criticism doesn't state the entire picture. Having averaged 20.9 points and 1.6 steals per game, James single-handedly helped a depleted Cleveland Cavaliers team that logged a 17-65 record in the 2002-03 season to register 18 more wins and improve their performance offensively and defensively.

By his third season, James was averaging 31.4 points per game, and saw Cleveland logging an offensive rating amongst the top 10 teams in the league and made it to the second round - in what was their first appearance in the playoffs in eight years.

It's safe to say that kid from Akron lived up to the immense expectations set even before his first press conference, demonstrating both incredible poise and the ability to deliver on his promises.
