Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr,, a.k.a. Snoop Dogg, has experienced a long-running fight with the U.S. legal system. It has now come to an end after the court of law granted a petition to seal his 1993 charge on murder.

The 52-year-old rapper was acquitted almost 30 years ago after being accused of killing and shooting Philip Woldemariam, a gang member.

It took place at Woodbine Park in L.A., and Snoop, along with McKinley Lee, his bodyguard, was faced with 1st and 2nd-degree murder charges in a 1996 high-profile trial.

The legal incident happened at the same time of the release of Snoop Dogg’s debut album, which launched his career to new levels despite his intense scrutiny by the media. After the acquittal, the rapper continuously dominated the music scene.

Snoop’s real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, and he asked to have his case sealed in January of 2024, with the judge approving his motion by February, according to TMZ.

In sealing his records, the murder charges won’t appear in public background checks for education, housing, or employment.

The decision marks a substantial time in Snoop’s legal journey, one that started in his youth when he was a part of the Los Angeles gang, the Crips.

Snoop’s road hasn’t been smooth. Right after finishing high school in 1989, the rapper was arrested for trying to sell cocaine to an undercover police officer. His constant run-ins with law enforcement ultimately led him to try a career in rap music - encouraged by his fellow Crips members while doing a brief run in jail.

That choice catapulted him to stardom, but not before being charged as an accessory to Philip’s murder, who allegedly had been murdered by one of the superstar's bodyguards in the year 1993. During Snoop’s trial, prosecutors claimed he was driving the car from which the deadly shots were fired.

The tension inside the courtroom was easy to see when a 24-year-old Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, held his hands in prayer after he and his bodyguard were acquitted of charges.

Snoop told the LA Times that "They made the right decision.” He added that it had been a situation that had affected their lives for the last 2 1/2 years. And he was trying to figure out if he was going to be around to raise his son.
