The South Carolina On3 Massey Ratings Top 25 list as of Oct. 9 features two teams in the top ten changing places. Meanwhile, there have been some shakeups from 11 to 25, as six teams took on new spots. Here’s how the top teams in South Carolina high school football fare after the games during the first weekend of October.
The On3 Massey Ratings , officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory. According to the model, two teams from South Carolina rank inside the nationwide top 100.

Since winning by one point against William Amos Hough, North Carolina’s third-best team, no other team has come close to defeating the Trojans. Their smallest margin of victory since is 14 points, and they defeated 22 nd -ranked Clover in their last match 57-23. Northwestern can run the table with winnable matchups against Fort Mill, Rock Hill, and Indian Land.
Dutch Fork’s streak of shutting down opponents has ended. However, they remain undefeated after dominating Chapin 63-10. The Foxes have the second-best offense in South Carolina high school football after scoring 114 points in their last two games. While they look unstoppable, the Foxes cannot take 16 th -ranked White Knoll in their next match.
It’s six up, six down for the Yellow Jackets after beating Lexington on the road 34-8. Aaron Brand Jr. and Amire White had the Wildcats’ defense on their toes after combining for 241 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Jaiden Bryant had five tackles and two sacks in that game. While they have remained undefeated after six games, Irmo’s schedule gets tougher because they will face No. 13 River Bluff, No. 16 White Knoll, and second-ranked Dutch Fork in three of their next four games.
The Indians haven’t played since September 20, when they defeated Boiling Springs 28-22. They had games against Spartanburg and Eastside lined up but did not push through. They will return to action against 17 th -ranked Byrnes this week, putting the state’s sixth-best defense to the test. Meanwhile, Gaffney is ranked fifth on offense, averaging 38.75 points per game.
The Rams last played on Sept. 20, when they defeated Prince Avenue Christian. They had scheduled games against Weddington and Southside, but they did not materialize. Westside returns to action versus Emerald this week and Fountain Inn Christian a week later.
The Green Wave amassed an avalanche of points in their one-sided victory over R.B. Stall. Of the 77 points Summerville scored against the Warriors, Jaden Cummings threw two touchdowns, and their offense tallied six rushing touchdowns. The Green Wave’s defense was also on display by shutting down the R.B. Stall offense because the only points they scored were from a kick return. This dominating performance should give the Green Wave massive confidence against James Island Charter this week.
After losing to Dutch Fork on Aug. 30, the Vikings became the fifth-best defense in South Carolina high school football after limiting Broome and Eastside to six points apiece. After two weeks of inactivity, Spartanburg returns to action in a road game against 18 th -ranked Dorman.
The Gamecocks moved up by one spot after a 63-25 demolition of West Florence. Sumter established a 49-19 lead over the Knights and never looked back. Sumter’s offense has improved, scoring at least 50 points in two of their last three games. Now that the Gamecocks are in a good rhythm, Blythewood must exude a valiant effort to pull off an upset at Sumter’s home field.
Hillcrest’s last game was a 51-6 demolition of Mauldin. That’s the fewest points they’ve allowed in their first four games this season, strengthening their case as one of the best defensive units in the state. After their schedules with Greenwood and T. L. Hanna did not push through, the Rams will return to action versus 12 th -ranked JL Mann this week.
The Stallions have won back-to-back games, outscoring opponents 120-14. They’ve shut out Camden while pouring on 64 points in their latest victory, led by Mason Pickett-Hicks’s 121 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Dailan Duncan contributed 101 receiving yards and a touchdown. Much credit also goes to South Pointe’s defense for tallying 16 tackles for losses and 5.5 sacks versus the Bulldogs. York Comprehensive will be in trouble if the Stallions maintain this rhythm.
