What started as a single, fast-service restaurant in greater Phoenix has expanded like wildfire throughout the state. The owners behind Angie’s Lobster aimed to offer fresh lobster rolls to Arizona customers for an affordable price. After all, if you’ve ever tried to order a lobster roll (if you can even find it) at local restaurants, it almost always costs a pretty penny. Due to all the overhead involved with bringing lobster into the area and keeping it fresh, it’s not exactly cheap to do. However, Angie’s Lobster found a way by working directly with Maine lobstermen, effectively cutting out middlemen. And now, the brand is expanding further into Tucson, with the recent purchase of a lot at the Wilmot Place Shopping Center.

In a sign of the times, the purchase of an individual lot at Wilmot Place Shopping Center costs a significant amount. According to Inside Tucson Business, Lot 2, which will be converted from a DSW into an Angie’s Lobster, was sold for $1.1 million. That’s a rather substantial amount for a lot that will house a restaurant without an inside dining room. One feature of Angie’s Lobster is to cut down on overhead and unnecessary expenses there not only is no dining room, but customers don’t receive a paper receipt, and utensils are minimal at best. Basically, if there’s a way to chop off a few cents from the bottom line of an order, Angie’s Lobster does exactly this.

Regardless of the purchase price, Angie’s Lobster has goals of opening the new location (6305 East Broadway Blvd) before the end of the year. To reach this goal there will need to be rapid renovations, but after dropping over a million bucks on the space, the owners won’t want to sit around and drag out construction. So, if you live by the shopping center you should have access to an affordable lobster roll restaurant in the coming weeks.

The cost of an Angie’s Lobster meal has increased slightly since its initial launch, but even so, it’s an affordable price for what you’re receiving (especially when compared to other restaurants. A chilled lobster roll, which features Maine lobster served chilled in a toasted, buttered bun and slathered in herby mayo and lemon butter, costs $11.99 for the meal (a drink and side), or $9.99 for just the roll. However, if you’d like to go cheaper, a fried shrimp sandwich meal runs just $8.49, so there are other money-saving options
